A Photographer's Reflection on Jared & Garima’s Wedding Day
Jared and Garima’s wedding day was filled with heartwarming moments and thoughtful touches, making it a day to remember. One of the details that stood out to me right away was the boutonniere Jared wore. Garima had handcrafted it herself to perfectly match her bouquet, and I thought that was an amazing and thoughtful touch that spoke to the care they put into their day.
As we moved into the paperwork portion of the day, emotions started to come to the surface. Before they even entered the chapel, Jared and Garima teared up while waiting to sign the paperwork. The tears were evident and came from the depth of what they were about to commit to. There was a delay in getting to the paperwork, and just as they were finally about to proceed, Jared found himself balancing the task of focusing on the paperwork while also giving attention to family members who called to congratulate them. It was one of those funny, slightly chaotic moments from an outside perspective, but it also added to the authenticity of the day.
Once the paperwork was done, we had a moment before heading into the chapel. Madeline, their officiant, was kind enough to allow us a few minutes to take posed shots in the waiting area—a very popular spot within the Marriage Bureau. We quickly ran through a series of posed shots, with them sitting, standing, and walking toward me. Even though it was posed, Jared and Garima’s natural and authentic reactions came through as they followed the tasks I gave them, having fun along the way. Then, it was time for the ceremony.
During the ceremony, they teared up again, though this time, the tears felt different—like a sense of relief, of finally being able to exhale and fully immerse themselves in the moment. From my perspective, it seemed like a release of all the anticipation and joy they had been feeling. It was beautiful to witness and even more meaningful to capture.
After the ceremony, we stepped outside for some exit photos. The area was crowded, as expected, and Jared and Garima had to walk through the hustle and bustle, following my instructions. This moment, for me, was especially powerful because it highlighted the nature of the Marriage Bureau—busy, full of life, and constantly moving. But despite the crowd, despite the noise, none of that mattered. Jared and Garima were together, happy, and had just accomplished a major milestone in their relationship. The busyness of the world around them was secondary to their love, and that’s what really came through in those exit photos.
From there, we headed over to the Supreme Court, where we captured some stunning shots on the grand steps and among the big columns. Afterward, we made our way to the corner of Center Street and Chamber Street, where we took more photos against the backdrop of the city’s iconic architecture. Finally, we moved on to the subway for the last part of the shoot. Jared and Garima’s friends, their 'Supporting Cast,' joined in for this part, and they were incredibly patient and supportive throughout the day. You could tell how genuinely happy they were for the couple, which added even more warmth to the atmosphere. We successfully captured the subway shots they wanted, a nod to the city they love, and wrapped up what I felt was a truly wonderful day.
To top it all off, Jared and Garima were incredibly generous, leaving a tip that made the day even brighter. But beyond that, it was their joy, their connection, and their love that left the biggest impact on me. Together, they’ve crossed one beautiful milestone. Who knows what’s next? Maybe babies—but whatever it is, I’m sure they’ll take it on with the same love and happiness they shared on this unforgettable day.
