Julie & Lalo's Wedding Day
From the moment Julie first contacted me, I could tell she was incredibly detail-oriented. While her laid-back personality made the process enjoyable, her attention to detail stood out. She made it clear what she wanted and expected, leaving little room for gray areas. As a photographer, I really appreciate this because it helps me tailor my approach to meet the client’s vision. It was clear from the beginning that Julie had a plan, and her focus allowed me to prepare in a way that ensured her day was captured just the way she imagined.
When the wedding day arrived, it was truly a fun and memorable experience. Lalo was like a kid in a candy store—his energy and excitement made everything flow effortlessly. Both Julie and Lalo were fully present, supportive, and all smiles throughout the day. Even after the ceremony, when the cold hit hard, their positivity and dedication to getting the perfect shots never wavered.
Speaking of the cold—it was freezing. The temperature was in the 20s, and with the windchill, it felt like the teens. Despite the biting cold and challenging conditions, they were absolute soldiers. After the ceremony, we captured some great shots around City Hall before heading to Prospect Park for their second location. It was a trek, and there weren’t any nearby spots to warm up, but they powered through like champs.
One of the most memorable moments of the day came during the ceremony itself. When Julie placed the ring on Lalo’s finger, she kissed his hand afterward. It was such a sweet, unexpected moment that left everyone smiling. In fact, I’ve photographed over 100 City Hall weddings in the past couple of years, and I’ve never seen that happen before. It was uniquely “them,” and moments like that are what make every wedding special.
At Prospect Park, we waited for their dog, Buddy, to join the shoot, but unfortunately, things didn’t go as planned. They took a 45-minute break to go and retrieve him, but the timing didn’t work out as we’d hoped. Even then, Julie and Lalo’s understanding and flexibility made it work. They returned quickly and wrapped up the session with kindness and gratitude, which I deeply appreciated after a long, cold day.
Despite the challenges, the day was filled with smiles, laughter, and playful moments. Their chemistry was evident in every candid shot, and their special handshake brought laughter each time they did it. The love they share and their ability to enjoy the moment despite the freezing weather made capturing their story an absolute joy.
Looking back, this day was a testament to Julie and Lalo’s resilience, love, and connection—not only with each other but also with the incredible support system they have in their lives. Hopefully, as they go through these images, they’ll be able to relive the joy, the fun, and even the challenges of the day, and remember what an incredible milestone this was.
Wishing you both nothing but the best on the journey ahead. It was an honor to capture your special day, and I hope these photos bring you as much joy as it brought me to create them.
With warm wishes,
Kali
